August Smiling

Greetings!

I’m so glad you’re here. I’m a Marriage and Family Therapist in Fort Collins, Colorado, where I provide all sorts of therapeutic services. For me, therapy is about connection - be it with yourself, with your partner, or with the universe. So naturally, my practice focuses on reconnecting with what is true for you so that you can move into the best version of yourself in all environments.

When we do things that align with our values, goals, and needs, we shine brightest. I became aware of this when I found myself searching for healing and happiness in validation from others and every piece of literature and cosmetic I could find. When a pile of self-help books, positive affirmations, and face masks came tumbling down on top of me, I realized I was living a life that I thought I should be living, instead of one that was true for me. In learning about self-care, attachment style, the power of relationships, and true emotional healing, I’ve moved into a life that aligns with the real me. This is what I want for you, too.

In both person-centered and animal-assisted therapy, I support you in reconnecting to your self, your relationships, and your community. Through self-empowerment and skill-building, I support you in promoting self-esteem, relationship-building, teamwork, self-awareness, mindfulness, and playfulness in a safe and accepting environment. Together, we can deepen your understanding, exploration, and compassion for your self, your partner, and your relationships. I am honored to support you, and I look forward to knowing you along this journey.

August the Dog

August is a 10 year-old Certified Professional Therapy Canine who works with individuals, couples, and families ages 12+. He is almost always in the therapy room with me. He started this work in 2019 and enjoys supporting his new friends in building strong relationships and increasing self-esteem and confidence in handling skills. He also helps clients feel better when they’re upset, and he adds playfulness and calm to therapy.

Coming from an unknown background, August has worked through several struggles in his life, including learning new skills to manage stress and anxiety, engage in safe interactions with other dogs, and he lives with a seizure disorder. He strives to thrive in all areas of life, and has always enjoyed helping others in their journeys.

August loves long walks, swimming, and he loves to roll around in snow, grass, or mud! His favorite toy is a tennis ball, and he will work hard for any treat you offer him!
